What to expect with Retail Rentals
This isn’t consignment: it’s better
How It Works
Think of how Estée Lauder runs its own counter inside Macy's. Your space is yours: your look, your products, your way of selling. The shop provides the space and the ground rules; you run the rest. It's a group of makers sharing one storefront, each running their own space. If you have wanted a real retail location for your business, but don’t need a huge storefront, this will be perfect!
Your space
You design and build your own space. You control how it's styled, stocked, and sold, within the store rules and safety codes the shop has to follow. Rent is based on the square footage your build takes up — you pay for the footprint you use.
Your sales
You keep 100% of your sales. There's no commission — just rent based on your space.
Rent and hours
Rent per square foot depends on how many hours a week you work in the shop. The minimum to take part is averaging 8 hours a week for the month.
8-11 hours/week: $4.50 per square foot
12–16 hours/week: $3.51 per square foot
17-20+ hours/week: $2.34 per square foot
Hours can be averaged across the month, so weeks can flex. At least half your hours need to be available on weekends to ensure the best coverage between us on the busiest days.
Shared costs
Gas and power are split evenly among all partners.
Sales and payouts
You'll get daily sales reports. When you're in the store, you can ring up your own items on your own POS. When you're away, we can sell them either on a POS you leave with us or through the Moss Alley Studio POS, which you'll have access to. Sales rung through the Moss Alley POS are paid out every two weeks — enough time for payments to clear and reach the Moss Alley Studio bank account.
Down the line
Retail space leases are flexible. You can stay as short as 6 months and as long as 2 years!
How Signing up Works
1. Contact Us Fill out our application form on the website for Retail Rental. Send photos of your products, tell us about your brand, and share what makes your items special.
2. Item Evaluation We'll review your items to ensure they're a good fit for our store and our customers. We're looking for quality products that complement our existing offerings without creating too much competition.
3. Approval and Space Selection Once we approve your application, you can choose and lease the floor space that works best for your products and budget up to 80 square feet.
4. Contract Signing We'll both sign a clear agreement outlining schedule splits, payment timelines, store bills, and all other terms. No surprises, no fine print—just straightforward expectations.
5. Display and Marketing Your space is yours to promote ands share with your customers! You will bring your own setup and style. Marketing is a dual effort. Moss Alley Studio pays for ads and will always give you a spotlight online, but you will be responsible for bringing in your customer base. You will be expected to post on social media at least twice a week or a similar marketing strategy.
6. Sale and Payment Set up how you want to be paid. You receive payment for all sales (minus POS fees and taxes) on the last day of each month.
